Now that the excitement of Opening Day has passed by, we can get some idea on early returns. Some players are on fire early and are really hitting on all cylinders. Other players are really struggling early on. For this article we are focusing on those MLB stars, most of whom don't even have a hit through at least a couple of games so far. This isn't a time for doom and gloom but it is a bad start to say the least.

So far in the 2014 season the Rays are doing okay but Zobrist is without a hit so far. He is 0 for 6 through a couple of games. Though he does have two runs scored on three walks.

He could have been a leading possible for Rookie of the Year in 2013 if a few others didn't bust out farther but this year looks nasty so far for Gyorko. He is 0 for 6 so far with a couple of walks. The walks have led to one run scored.

8 – Nolan Arenado – Colorado Rockies

Arenado is looking to improve his offensive game this season and while that is still very possible, it is not happening as of yet. The gold glove winning third baseman is 0 for 7 on the young season and has left quite a few on the bases in the process.

7 – Brett Lawrie – Toronto Blue Jays

Something tells you that the Blue Jays are going to be better this year. Whether that impression is true or not, the big comeback year that Lawrie should be primed and ready to have is not going well yet. He is 0 for 7 so far with a walk and he does have one run scored from that one base on balls.

The Angels made a good decision holding on to Kendrick this offseason though it isn't looking great just yet. He is hit-less in his first seven at-bats of the season so far.

After having the month of his life in September, the Giants handed Pence a nice contract. So far this year it might start to look like they paid a too much based on too short of a time frame. He is 0 for 8 so far though to his credit he does have one RBI.

4 – B.J. Upton – Atlanta Braves

The big comeback season that Upton is supposed to have this season is not going that well as of yet. Unfortunately he is 0 for 8 on the young season. That is perhaps more troubling for Upton than anyone else on this list because he struggled so badly last season. It should also be noted that of those 8 at-bats, he has struck out four times. That is not a good sign at all. At least Dan Uggla is hitting a little already.

3 – Edwin Encarnacion – Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are getting contributions from a few places but they are not getting them from Lawrie and also are surprisingly not getting anything from Encarnacion as of yet. He is 0 for 8 on the young season.

Ramirez is the only player on this list that actually does have one hit. He is still high ranking on the list because he has played four games already. Still he is only 1 for 15 through those games. They need for him to catch fire if they are going to play like they did a year ago.

The season has started and everyone in a Padres hat wants to know if Headley is the guy who was MVP caliber in 2012 of if he is the Headley he has been for every other season. I'm not slamming the guy for his production being less than the career year but it is noteworthy that he is 0 for 8 on the young 2014 season.
