Just because this is a list of overreactions, it doesn’t mean that the five mentioned won’t happen. However, it is a bit premature to be making grand expectations just because the Milwaukee Brewers are 4-2 and coming off a sweep of the Boston Red Sox. With that in mind, check out these five ridiculous overreactions to the Brewers’ early action.

Ace Yovani Gallardo is statistically the best pitcher in the majors through two starts. He’s 2-0 with seven strikeouts and zero runs given up in 12 2/3 innings. Gallardo winning the National League Cy Young Award might be an overreaction for now, but there’s no question he has looked really good throwing the ball this season.

Aramis Ramirez’s biggest issue in the past was his slow start out of the gate. However, that is not the case this year as the slugger is on fire at the plate. Ramirez is batting .440 with six RBI in 25 at-bats. Health and age will be the biggest reason why Ramirez wouldn’t be able to sustain his stellar batting average long enough to be crowned the NL batting champ. Nonetheless, he’s certainly playing like he could accomplish the feat.

Milwaukee’s pitching staff is proving the doubters wrong. They have shown enough talent in the first week of the season to make others believe pitching will be enough of a strength to do some serious damage in the NL. The Brewers’ pitchers currently lead all of baseball with an impressive 1.45 ERA. Milwaukee definitely has what it takes to be at the top at the end of the season, but making such a prediction right now is an overreaction.

Carlos Gomez was six home runs away last season from becoming only the third Brewer to join the 30-30 club. Gomez has the power at the plate and the speed on the bases to record the necessary 30 homers and 30 stolen bases. The way he’s playing right now, it certainly could be a possibility. Hopefully, his two home runs and one stolen base in six games is a sign of good things to come.

Through six games, the Brewers look to be the best team in the NL Central. The fact that it is only six games is why this is the biggest overreaction of them all. Sure, Milwaukee could very well be crowned division champs at the end of the season. But If that’s going to happen, they will need to stay healthy and continue to play with confidence.
