With closer Bobby Parnell out for the season, the New York Mets could soon be taking a second look at the free agent market in hopes of finding bullpen help and perhaps even someone who can close games for them. Here are five available relief pitchers that the Mets could potentially sign to fill the void left by Parnell.

Dotel had a rough season in 2013, but he had a lot of solid seasons before that so he may still have something left in the tank. He also started his career with the Mets, so his career could come full circle if he ends up coming back to help the bullpen this year.

The Mets didn't scout Madson this offseason while he was working his way back from Tommy John surgery, but a few years ago he was one of the top relievers in baseball. Signing him to a minor league deal and seeing how he does is a no-risk move with considerable upside and something the Mets should consider.

3. Rafael Betancourt

Betancourt was solid if unspectacular last year and has several years of experience as a closer. Bringing him in can't hurt, especially if Jose Valverde and Kyle Farnsworth don't hold up throughout the course of the season.

2. Kevin Gregg

Gregg is an ideal fit for the Mets; he's big and strong and can handle a big workload. He also closed 33 games on a bad team last year, and even if he's not a long-term solution, he has a chance to help the Mets this year.

Hanrahan is coming off Tommy John surgery, but the Mets have expressed interest because he's such a great fit. He was a lock-down closer in 2011 and 2012, and if he can still be anything close to that, he's a pitcher the Mets need to sign. He could become a reliable closer for them in the absence of Bobby Parnell.
