The Miami Marlins are off to a hot start this year and are looking like a team that could become a dark horse in the NL East. As we hit the mid-point in the second week of baseball, here are five ridiculous overreactions to their early success.

When we look back on this months from now, this might actually turn out to be a pretty solid prediction, but it’s tough to just hand someone the award after the first week. However, it’s hard to argue with a .606 slugging percentage, two HRs and 12 RBIs. Plus, the dude hit a baseball 484 feet.

The Marlins are a young team with hidden talent. You won’t recognize most names on the roster, but that doesn’t matter because manager Mike Redmond has this team believing and playing well. If they keep this up, a significant end-of-the-year award may be in his future.

Before they headed north to play the Washington Nationals, the Marlins had sole possession of first place. While it was only after seven games, it still counts for something, right? Time will tell if they can compete with the Atlanta Braves and Nationals.

Forget winning the division. Why not just go for the whole thing? The Marlins are among the top five hitting teams in baseball and their pitching as been surprisingly good as well. Why not make them an early dark horse for the World Series?
