The Boston Red Sox are tied with the Baltimore Orioles and rival NY Yankees at 4-5 in the AL East. The Toronto Blue Jays lead the division at 5-4 with the Tampa Bay Rays a half game back at 5-5. The baseball season just began, but there have already been overreactions. Yes, the Sox play in Boston, a place known for overreactions, but everybody needs to relax. It’s a long a season and there is a lot of baseball left. Here are five overreactions.

This is at No. 5 because it doesn't have anything to do with the Red Sox on the field. The Red Sox visited the White House since they are the defending World Series champs. Ortiz took a selfie with Obama and everyone just lost it. Are you kidding me? Who cares if Ortiz used a Samsung instead of an iPhone? It was a fun picture and Obama most likely had no idea what kind of phone Ortiz was using anyway. RELAX.

4. No Jacoby Ellsbury In Center Field

Okay, maybe this doesn’t technically have to do with the performance of the Sox over the first nine games the season, but everyone lost their minds when Ellsbury signed with the Yankees as a free agent this offseason. Ellsbury was great, but there are other good center fielders. The Sox have two players who can play some good center field. One of them is at No. 3.

I’ve actually read that Sizmore is heading towards winning the 2014 AL MVP, but it is way too early to even begin this discussion. Sizemore is playing great, but let the season marinate for a minute for crying out loud.

Dan wrote a piece for the Boston Globe on Apr. 1, the day after the Sox lost 2-1 to the Orioles in their season opener and called it a must-win. The Sox did win, 6-2, but calling it a must-win? In April? Please. Double up on relaxing.

1. The Red Sox will Miss the Playoffs

Okay, take a deep breath and one more time, say it with me: “The MLB season is 162 games.” There you go. Feel better? I hope so. I get that we live in a world of overreactions, but saying any team will miss the playoffs this early in the season is ridiculous. The Sox are one game back of the Blue Jays. One—with 153 left. There’s a good chance the Sox are playing in October, but it’s way too early to really know anything.
