The Boston Red Sox Need To Shake Their Hangover

Red Sox Nation were all a little worried about what this season would look like after the totally unlikely and surprising World Series championship of last year. The season is still way too early to even think about panicking, however it feels like some fans are already calling this season a wash.

Let’s face facts, the Boston Red Sox haven’t played that well so far in 2014. Most glaring has been the offense, where it seems like Boston is either leaving tons of men on base or hitting into inning ending double play after double play. The pitching has been good but with no offense, the pitchers need to be just about perfect which is extremely tough to do. Also, Jacoby Ellsbury and Shane Victorino’s defense has been missed in the outfield. There have been a few balls hit out there that would have been sure outs last season.

It is just surprising to see Boston struggle so much this season because last year they really didn’t slump much at all. They were fundamentally sound on every aspect of their game and they never beat themselves.

Also, Boston managed to stay pretty healthy for the most part last year. This year, they haven’t had Victorino at all and now Will Middlebrooks has gone down for the count. These are two players, Victorino in particular, that are very key parts of the lineup.

The Red Sox are going to turn things around and play a lot better than they have been. They are too good and too balanced to keep struggling like they have been. However, they can’t hide like they did last year and surprise everyone. The bullseye is on them.

Like I mentioned, they will get going. They just don’t want to wait too long before that happens. Right now, they look like someone coming into the office on Monday morning after a crazy weekend.
