Will Jon Lester Ever Get Run Support This Year?

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are facing each other in a four-game series this weekend. The Yankees took the first game and the same issues that Boston has been having continue to happen.

Basically, the Red Sox have had no consistent offense at all so far this season. No timely hits — no two-out magic. Have you noticed Boston seems to be either hitting into double-plays or striking out whenever there are men on base? And no one has suffered this slump worse than Jon Lester.

Lester has pitched very well in his games and has absolutely nothing to show for it. He is this year’s John Lackey in terms of run support. I understand that because he is the ace that he would probably be going up against other teams’ best pitcher, but you would think as good as Boston’s lineup is, they could put together some sort of rally.

I have said it before and I will say it again, a lot of Boston’s issue is that they are getting almost no production out of the leadoff spot. It just seems that whoever they put up there is incapable of getting the lineup going. A lot of teams don’t have or even need a dynamic leadoff hitter. However, Boston does because that is how they are able to score a lot of runs.

Lester deserves a much better fate than what he has dealt with so far. He could easily have at least two wins instead of two losses. However, with the offense doing nothing and C.C Sabathia looking good, Lester almost has to be perfect in order to win.

With contract talks possibly looming in the future, Lester needs to have another strong year. The beginning of this season hasn’t helped him at all. The Yankees have shown that Boston still can’t seem to put it together right now and it is all coming down on Lester.
