An Achilles' heel for the Angels in the past has been their pitching, but they're hoping this year can be different. If it can, they have a very good chance of making a solid playoff run. Based on what they've done so far, here are early grades for each of the team's starting five pitchers as well as their bullpen as a whole.

Record: 0-2
5.79 ERA
1.125 WHIP
17:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio

Weaver is supposed to be the ace of this staff, but he hasn't pitched like it so far. He's gotten banged up and when he's gotten into trouble, he hasn't gotten out of it. Something that needs to improve is his pitching in pressure situations in order for the Angels to be successful this season.

Record: 2-1
3.92 ERA
1.161 WHIP
24:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio

Wilson has under-performed since coming over from the rival Rangers a couple years ago, but he's off to a promising start this season. He's doing what the team needs him to in order to win and as long as he can keep doing that, he will be in good shape.

Record: 2-0
2.74 ERA
1.158 WHIP
18:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio

Richards has given the Angels' rotation a big boost so far this season. The youngster has the lowest ERA of any starting pitcher on the team and has flashed ace potential. He has already issued 10 walks, which is a concern, but he looks like a very solid long-term piece in Los Angeles.

Record: 0-2
4.96 ERA
1.469 WHIP
13:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio

Santiago is still trying to find it early on in the season as he has struggled out of the gate. He hasn't been awful, but he hasn't been what the Angels need him to be either. Santiago needs to locate his pitches better in order to avoid big innings that have plagued him so far this season.

Record: 1-0
3.43 ERA
1.143 WHIP
11:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio

Acquired in the Mark Trumbo trade over the offseason, Skaggs is off to a promising start in his young career. There's no doubt the south paw adds depth to the rotation and he has been one of the better pitchers in it as well. As he matures, he will keep moving up in the rotation for Los Angeles.

The Angels' bullpen has been a clear weak link so far this season. They are a collective 1-for-4 in save opportunities and closer Ernesto Frieri has struggled early on. If they don't fix the situation quickly, it could get even worse throughout the course of the season.
