The Miami Marlins finished another short homestand with a sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Easter Sunday, as the Marlins escaped with a 3-2 win. The sweep his huge for a lot of reasons as the month gets ready to turn to May, and the first month of the 2014 season is almost over. No one expected the Marlins to be where they are right now.
Miami has nine wins in its first 19 games — a feat that was not achieved last year until May 4. Miami did not record its first sweep last year until its May 31-June 2 series with the New York Mets. The Marlins are starting to get the hang of things, and if the bats start getting hotter as the temperature rises, the team is only going to get more dangerous.
The fish have two tough series this week starting with the Atlanta Braves Monday and then the Mets at the end of the week. Miami has not won a game on the road yet, but they could be able to do so because the Braves have not been totally consistent yet this year and you never know what kind of Mets team you are going to see.
Jose Fernandez will also get a start in the Braves series which is always good thing for the Marlins to have.
The Marlins are only four games back in the National League East. A few wins this week could propel them to the top of the division.
