As the season progresses, the AL Central will begin to take much more of a shape than it has to this point. It's hard to guess who will win a division just a few weeks into the season, but the Detroit Tigers were favorites to start the year. As of right now, Minnesota is sitting at .500 and just one game behind the Tigers.

Let's take a look at the matchups and preview for the upcoming series between these two teams.

The Twins have been quite the surprise team this season, ranking fourth in the entire league in runs scored and second in on-base percentage. They are on a torrid pace, but going up against a tough Tigers' pitching staff might hamper that.

Players to watch: Chris Colabello (.346 AVG, 3 HR, 26 RBI), Trevor Plouffe (.303 AVG, 1 HR, 13 RBI), Brian Dozier (.220 AVG, 6 HR, 8 RBI)

The Tigers started the season off as slow as could be, but have since woken up just a bit, offensively. Detroit is still 27th in the league in runs scored, but have risen into the top-10 in batting average, on-base percentage and also slugging percentage.

Players to watch: Austin Jackson (.310 AVG, 2 HR, 9 RBI), Ian Kinsler (.303 AVG, 2 HR, 13 RBI), Miguel Cabrera (.236 AVG, 2 HR, 10 RBI)

While the Twins have been excellent in the hitting side of things, the pitching staff ranks near the bottom of the league in about every major category.

Game 1: Kevin Correia (0-2, 5.47 ERA, 12 SO, 1.42 WHIP)

Game 2: Phil Hughes (1-1, 6.43 ERA, 20 SO, 1.67 WHIP)

Game 3: Kyle Gibson (3-1, 3.63 ERA, 13 SO, 1.48 WHIP)

The Tigers' bullpen has been as poor as any in the league, but the starting rotation is as good as any in the league.

Game 1: Rick Porcello (2-1, 3.15 ERA, 12 SO, 1.05 WHIP)

Game 2: Anibal Sanchez (0-2, 3.54 ERA, 22 SO, 1.18 WHIP)

Game 3: Justin Verlander (3-1, 2.18 ERA, 27 SO, 1.36 WHIP)
