The Pittsburgh Pirates' farm system is loaded with lots of young, high-ceiling talent. When an organization can combine great minor league talent and depth with a good MLB-level squad, that organization has the potential to be great for a long time. For the Pirates, their infield depth certainly isn't lacking.

Due to the great depth at catcher for the Pirates, Wyatt Mathisen was moved permanently to third base. He has elite athleticism, so the move to third shouldn't be too difficult for him. If he can stay healthy, he should succeed at third base, and his offense is good enough to play at any position on the field.

One of many catchers in the Pirates' system, Jin-De Jhang will have to perform well to move up the minor league chain. Jhang is an above average prospect both offensively and defensively, and he could find himself paired with McGuire as the future of the Pirates' catching position.

Even though he was an outfielder in college, the Pirates want JaCoby Jones to play shortstop. Jones is athletic enough to adapt to the infield and he certainly has the tools to be a good big league player. For him to succeed, he will need to be consistent and develop a better approach at the plate.

It's hard to predict the future for a catcher drafted out of high school, but Reese McGuire seems like a decent bet to succeed. He is an elite defensive catcher. His future role in the majors will depend on how he produces at the plate. He probably won't hit for much power, but he will get on base at a decent rate.

Of all the Pirates' top infield prospects, Alen Hanson has the best shot at becoming an everyday MLB player. Despite some issues on defense and with his plate discipline, Hanson is still a very exciting prospect. Overall, Hanson possesses great offensive ability and has elite speed.
