Though the Cincinnati Reds might be well respected for their major league level starting pitching rotation, their minor league prospects are quite respectable as well. Whether or not they can be considered underrated probably should depend on each individual case. With that in mind let's look at the top five pitching prospects for the Reds right now.
Travieso is lower ranked than the top guys on this list but his performance so far might well force him up the list in the near future. In 2014 he has a 1.23 ERA and 1.00 WHIP that has resulted in a 3 – 0 start.
Every organization loves to have a good lefty in their top ten prospects but Holmberg has been struggling so far in 2014. He has a 14.46 ERA through 3 starts.
Contreras is a good man in this minor league system with a 3.95 ERA and 1.39 WHIP so far in 2014. He has had four appearances and 3 starts.
Lorenzen is four spots from the top of the overall prospects ranking for the Reds prospects but he is pitching like the best of the best. He has a 1.52 ERA and 1.06 WHIP thus far.
Stephenson has been the top prospect for the Reds for a while but he is struggling a little bit this season with a 4.43 ERA and 1.52 WHIP.
