Jimmy Fallon has been doing a great job since taking over the Tonight Show a couple months back. One of the great things he’s done is take successful bits from Late Night and brought them to 11:30. You may remember last summer when he had Matt Harvey take the streets of New York to have some fun with baseball fans.
Well, Fallon and company are at it again. This time they’ve got Robinson Cano roaming the streets of the Big Apple to clown some New York Yankees fans. Enjoy:
I think it’s safe to say that this bit is an instant classic.
It was really funny to see that everyone immediately went in for a handshake as soon as Cano revealed himself. You could just feel the awkwardness coming through the screen, but that’s what made it great.
You know that Yankees fans are going to boo the crap out of the second baseman every time he returns home, but maybe this comedy bit will ease some of the tension.
As for the early part of Cano’s tenure with the Mariners, it’s going pretty well. He’s hitting over .300 through 24 games and has knocked in 11 runs. His power is lacking a little, with only one home run to his name, but the Mariners will take what they’re getting from the former Yank.
Seattle is a long shot to make the playoffs this season, but the team is definitely headed in the right direction for the first time in a long time.
