Derek Jeter is making all kinds of stops on his farewell tour. Everybody wants to talk to the living legend on his victory lap, and rightfully so. Players like The Captain just don’t come around all that often.
But recently he took some time out of his busy schedule to talk movies with ESPN.
“I’m a movie person. I like going to a theater. I get my popcorn. In the offseason, I go all the time. I see everything. I go three or four times a week if there are new ones out. You go during the week in the afternoon -— no one is there. It is one of my favorite things to do.”
So, what are Jeter’s favorite movies?
1. American History X
2. Major League
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. The Five Heartbeats
Many baseball fans will agree with him on Major League. To call that film a sports classic would be an understatement. If you’re a baseball fan and you haven’t seen Major League — get with the program.
American History X is a very intense movie, which features many serious topics. It’s definitely a unique choice for an all-time favorite flick.
“It shows you how people can change. Sometimes people are products of their environments, but they can change in due time. That was pretty good. Ed Norton was good in that one,” Jeter said on AHX.
Who doesn’t love Shawshank?
As for the The Five Heartbeats, it’s not near as popular as the rest of Jeter’s favorites, but he says you’ll like it if you’re a fan of music.
Overall, you can’t argue with The Captain’s favorite movie choices.
