The Colorado Rockies have been a pleasant surprise in 2014. They have an MVP candidate in Troy Tulowitzki, they are leading the majors in hitting by a long shot and they are currently in a five team tie for the two Wild Card spots in the National League. To establish themselves in the NL as a true contender, they are going to need to make some trades before the deadline. These five players may not finish the season with the Rockies.

From day one, many in baseball have been waiting for LaTroy Hawkins to lose the job as closer for the Rockies. So far this season he has recorded all of the save chances for the team. Manager Walt Weiss has Rex Brothers waiting in the wings, and the Rockies should move on from the 41-year-old.

To make a move in the NL, the Rockies are going to need to get a better starting pitcher. They have survived on some unproven names. It would behoove them to get a more experienced starter who could anchor them should they make the playoffs. To do that, they are going to have to pay a price. Eddie Butler is ranked as their second-best prospect on some lists, so he could bring in a pretty big name.

Since coming off the DL on May 4, Jhoulys Chacin has gone 0-4 in five starts with a 5.20 ERA. You may think it is crazy to "give up" on someone who is only 26 years old, but they will use him to get a great player in return. Don't just sell him -- use him to get someone great.

Last year's batting champ, Michael Cuddyer has been very good in his relatively short stint with the Rockies in a contract year. While he was on the DL earlier this year, his replacements played very well. Drew Stubbs and Corey Dickerson have both killed it in his absence which means that Cuddyer is replaceable. They could get some really good prospects in the deal or use him to upgrade the catcher position.

The Rockies gave lefty specialist Boone Logan big money this offseason after four very good years with the New York Yankees. He has been nothing short of bad this year, having allowed six runs in his past six appearances. It is possible that needs a change of scenery to continue his career.
