For those long suffering Atlanta Braves fans who have longed for a second baseman who can make consistent contact between bat and baseball; the time has finally come. Tommy La Stella has not been perfect since being called up to MLB to man second base for the Braves but he has been close enough to perfect for Braves fans. It is time to thank the heavens. He has played a few games without striking out one time.
That will jinx him of course and he will strike out six out of the next ten times at the plate. Overall however, his history shows that this is not something that will go away. La Stella might not always have an RBI base hit with runners in scoring position and two outs but he will consistently have good at-bats and put wood on the ball. Think of the Braves having their sort of version of the Houston Astros‘ Jose Altuve.
I’m not suggesting that he is Altuve or will be. The fact is that he is already proving to be a huge breath of fresh air manning the second bag for the Braves. This is nothing against Dan Uggla. Hopefully he will regroup eventually and have a late career resurgence somewhere. Most Braves fans are happy now that they know they will see someone at second base now that will not strike out an average of two or three times each game. Pinch yourselves Braves fans, your second baseman doesn’t strikeout all the time and can get clutch hits on a regular basis.
