The Arizona Diamondbacks are clearly out of the race for the postseason, even though it's just the first of June. At 23-35 and 14 games out of first place in the National League West, the D-Backs could be open to moving several players in an effort to re-stock for another run in 2015. Here are five players the D-Backs could move prior to July 31.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggests the Diamondbacks may be open to moving Bronson Arroyo if they don't start winning soon. In 67.2 innings, Arroyo has a 4.39 ERA and a 4.26 FIP.
The Diamondbacks could move Didi Gregorius because Chris Owings has taken clear control of the shortstop job. Several teams would have interest in trading for the slick-fielding Gregorius, so the D-Backs could get something good for him.
Pitching is extremely valuable on the trade market, especially ground-ball pitchers with good control. Brandon McCarthy has a 5.20 ERA and 3.88 FIP in 72.2 innings this season for the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks have Aaron Hill under control for a few more years, but he is struggling this season. In 224 plate appearances, Hill is hitting .254/.308/.405 with a wRC+ of 93. If a team comes calling about Hill, the Diamondbacks will listen.
In just 109 plate appearances in 2014, Cody Ross is hitting .184/.229/.233 with a 22 wRC+. Ross is making million per year on his deal, so the Diamondbacks would probably like to rid themselves of some of that contract.
