When the Atlanta Braves did not select a pitcher with their first round pick of the 2014 MLB Draft, it was newsworthy but a great decision. The drafting of outfielder Braxton Davidson out of T.C. Roberson High School was a very good choice. The Braves are sure to make the most of their draft this year and deepen their great pitching prospects but they are soon to get thin in outfielders.

Davidson was thought to be about the sixteenth ranked prospect for this year’s draft so the Braves got a steal in that sense. Only time will tell for sure but Davidson right now has the potential to develop into a power hitter who can also hit for average. Sure, the Braves have a decent outfield right now but when you look at the guys coming up, there isn’t a ton of guaranteed power on the way.

It could be that in the next several years Davidson develops into the Braves next big power hitter. Surely it has been a while since they were able to say they had a big power bat on the way. It is not nearly a guarantee for Davidson either but he could well be the biggest potential offensive draft pick of the last several years for the Braves. This is a very good move to start their 2014 draft.
