The Los Angeles Angels are currently in the thick of a playoffs as they lie in the second Wild Card spot. Although all is well in terms of their early-season success, the Halos still need to fix their pitching issues, in particular, their lack of reliability in the bullpen. Here are five players they should target prior to the trade deadline.

If the Angels are looking for starting rotation help Chicago Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija could be a viable option. The six-year veteran has pitched quite well for the Cubs this season with his 2.80 ERA despite a 2-6 record in 15 starts this season. Samardzija could be the Halos' fifth starter effectively replacing struggling Hector Santiago.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' relief pitcher over the past few seasons has quietly been one of the league's most effective relievers. It is completely evident that the Halos need bullpen help and with the Diamondbacks continuing to struggle the 34-year-old submarine pitcher may become available. Ziegler could help improve the Angels' bullpen issues by stepping right in and become a solid one-two punch with Joe Smith late in games.

3. Joakim Soria - RHP

The Angels' biggest need is at the closer spot with the lack of consistency out of reliever Ernesto Frieri, who owns a 5.83 ERA and has allowed six runs over his last three appearances. The Texas Rangers may be looking to move players with their subpar start to the season. If so, the Halos must jump at the opportunity to nab reliever Joakim Soria, who holds a 1.80 ERA and has converted 15 out of 16 save opportunities.

2. David Price - SP

With the continued struggles of lefty Hector Santiago, who has a 0-7 record 4.44 ERA in nine starts this season, the Angels may look to acquire a starter. This is where the Tampa Bay Rays come into the picture as they may trade their former Cy Young award winner David Price, who is set to become a free agent next offseason. If the Halos do have serious interest, any deal they offer will likely center around prized prospect C.J. Cron.

The San Diego Padres are in a midst of another disappointing season as they hold one of the league's worst record. Although they have been terrible in 2014, Street has been outstanding to say the least with his 0.96 ERA and is 20-for-20 in save opportunities. The 30-year-old would immediately provide much-needed stability to the back end of the Angels' bullpen and keep them in the hunt for their first playoff berth since 2009.
