When Tommy La Stella came up with a bat on fire, the Atlanta Braves world went crazy. With his recent struggles, some have begun to worry that La Stella has been put in the wrong position in the batting order with the recent move to the top. While it is very tempting for many fans to just blame everything on Fredi Gonzalez, the struggles at the plate for La Stella have nothing to do with where they moved him in the batting order. It is simple and easy to explain.
La Stella is a good hitter by general nature. He has hit at every single level he has played at throughout his professional career. Just like he struggled a little bit at the beginning of the season at Triple-A in 2014, the pitchers have adjusted. La Stella is still true to his form and not striking out which really just means that he is not finding holes. Chances are that he will adjust in a week or so and the numbers will begin to climb once again.
One thing that Braves nation should not do is start to worry that La Stella is just another second baseman who is not going to hit. This guy is going to hit no matter where he plays. The only question is when he gets the bat going and where he ends up in the batting order when that happens. One thing is for sure. Jason Heyward’s hot bat in the middle of the order is something that does not need to change anytime soon.
