Alex Wood Could be Atlanta Braves’ Number Two Starter by Seasons’ End
Not only because he is a left hander but also because of the stuff he has shown, Alex Wood could very soon climb the ladder of rank and file on the Atlanta Braves starting rotation. Clearly Julio Teheran has emerged as the ace of the staff and no one could easily dispute that. Wood was great as a starter earlier in the season and in fact only had to be moved from the rotation to protect his innings count. Relieving didn’t work that well for him but he certainly is proving again to be a good starting option.
Add to the way he has pitched this season the way he started last year as well. In addition still is his poise which is better than last season. He is still passionate about outs, which is great, but there are fewer emotional outbursts on the mound like there was when he was first starting out. What could emerge soon with him is a great right and left tandem at the start of the Braves’ rotation. Teheran is an ace for sure and Wood is reaching the same doggedly calm demeanor.
At least by the time the season starts next season don’t be surprised if Wood has climbed to the second spot in the rotation. That could be true even with a strong return season by Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen. Of course all of that depends on how he pitches for the remainder of the season. If appearances are to be believed, he is clearly going to be something special very soon. Just enjoy watching as he does just that.
