Oakland Athletics Should Look To Be More Dangerous

Raise your hand if you thought the Oakland Athletics would have the best winning percentage of any team after 81 games. Yeah, not a lot of people thought they would. The two time defending AL West champions are tied for the most wins in all of MLB with 51.

The surprising part about all of this is the fact they hold a slim five game lead over the Los Angeles Angels. The scary part though is the Athletics could get much better overnight. The team is known for drafting smart and developing their players to be contenders, and that is the biggest reason they are contenders for winning the AL West for a third straight year. That could also help them land a big piece that could help them continue the greatness they have shown all season.

It is rumored the Angels are in the running for ace pitcher David Price. If the Athletics were to trade for him, that would make the most sense for both teams. The Tampa Bay Rays are another team that is well known for developing through their minor league organizations and creating playoff contending teams, but that is not the case this year. The Athletics could give the Rays some players for the future and take a player who can help them win now.

The Athletics are putting up great numbers, both pitching and hitting wise. However, the Angels are staying in the playoff race and are looking to help the team get better via trade. The Athletics should look to do the same thing so they are not scratching their head come September, wondering why their rival jumped them in the standings. They could even potentially get past that dreadful ALDS slump they’re in.
