All speculation as to who the best of the best of the Atlanta Braves starting rotation is has ended. With another huge and gutsy win over the New York Mets on Wednesday, Julio Teheran is the unquestioned ace of the staff. That has led to him having the third best ERA in the National League and getting recognition possibly for the All-Star team. Because he will not be eligible to pitch in the game, it could be tempting to leave him off of the team but he should be given the spot anyway.
Sure the All-Star game supposedly means something now with the home field advantage of the World Series being up for grabs but everyone knows the game is just for fun. When the next MLB commissioner gets into office, let us all hope that craziness is removed and set back to which team has the best record. All of that said, the game is not a stressful game. It is for recognition of the best players from the first half of the MLB season. When National League pitching is considered, no one could really leave Teheran out of that group.
The fact that he will start the game on Sunday just before the All-Star game might mean he cannot pitch in the game but that means nothing. His performance this season warrants there being an All-Star by his name for this year when everyone looks back years from now. He is an All-Star pitcher this season and should be given the title officially. Thankfully the pitching staff is selected mostly by people other than the fans so this could actually happen. No offense to fans of course as I am one, but we rarely get the voting correct. Teheran should be an NL All-Star period.
