Atlanta Braves Top 5 Whispers Before 2014 Trade Deadline

It's crazy how much teams can change over the course of a season. For the Atlanta Braves, this has never been more true. They are on a winning streak in which they are scoring runs at a relatively high pace, and their pitching is looking as good as advertised. But some areas need improvement. While the bullpen has gotten better, it wouldn't be hard to improve it. So, who could the team look use to improve the roster?

Maybe the most far-fetched whisper of the rumors, but not a bad one at all. The Braves thought of taking B.J. Upton out of the lineup before he went on this nine game hitting streak, Fowler would be a great replacement. He has a solid on-base percentage and could definitely improve the team's lineup from the leadoff position. However, the team is more likely to stay inside the organization to handle the Upton problem.

At 33 years old, he wouldn't be a long term solution, but for some reason the team seems to want a little more versatility out of their second baseman in the lineup. Tommy La Stella is one of three young second basemen in the organization, but the Braves want to win now. While Zobrist wouldn't be able to solve the leadoff position, he would be a guy that brings veteran presence to the team as they make a playoff run.

3. Brian Dozier

Dozier hits for a lower average than Zobrist, but has more power with an on-base percentage that isn't too shabby either. The strikeout numbers are a little high for my liking, especially since the team already does it enough. He's also one of the better defensive second basemen in the American League, which would just add to the mostly great defense played for the Braves. A solid pickup that could add more power to the line up.

An inner division trade? That's why this is just a whisper, but if the Braves were to get Murphy, it could mean a huge difference to the lineup. He doesn't have the power that Dozier has, but has a better batting average than Zobrist. Also, he's 29 years old and in his prime years, which could definitely help the team go deeper in the playoffs.

This may not be much of a whisper but the Braves are definitely a sleeper team to pick up Price. It's unlikely that the Braves will pick him up considering that the Rays would understandably ask a king's ransom for him and the team really doesn't like to give up many prospects for players that they won't be able to re-sign. However, if they can pull it off, the Braves would easily be the NL East favorites, and possibly World Series favorites.
