Forget the rumors you've heard about the Washington Nationals trading OF Denard Span. The team is likely to keep Span through the 2015 season and for good reason. Despite rumors and comments from players like fellow OF Bryce Harper, the Nationals see Span in center field for the time being. Here is why they should keep him there.

Denard Span leads the Washington Nationals in stolen bases with 14. Span is the only National with double-digit stolen bases this season. As the leadoff man, he is making things happen when he gets on base.

Span's .267 batting average isn't the best of his career, but he has been improving it over the last two months. The way he has done that is by getting on base any way he can. With his speed, he can bunt or turn an average shot into an extra-base hit. He leads the team with 28 doubles and five triples.

Span does not strike out. He has only 37 strikeouts on 337 at bats. Of Nationals with over 70 games played, Adam LaRoche is the next closest in terms of strikeouts and he has 18 more than Span.

Span is third on the team in hits with 90 and second in runs with 53. In the field, he rounds out a stellar outfield now that Bryce Harper has returned from injury. The Nationals recognize that if he remains consistent at the plate, he can be a huge threat to defenses.
