The NL MVP race could turn into a two-man race between Giancarlo Stanton and Troy Tulowitzki. Both players are on teams not atop any division. If the Marlins finish with a better record than the Colorado Rockies, it is going to be because of Stanton.

Stanton had a bit of an off year in 2013 because of injuries, but overall in his career he has been consistent. Stanton is only proving his consistency this season. You know you are going to get all you can from Stanton when he is in the lineup, which is part of the makeup of an MVP.

So far this season, Stanton has recorded a 4.7 bWAR and a 3.8 fWAR. Both stats are the highest he has recorded since 2012 and it could only increase from here. Nobody on the Marlins can replace what he does at the plate and without Stanton the Marlins are in the basement of the NL East instead of fourth.

Miami is only 7.5 games out of first in the NL East. Miami making the playoffs is contingent on Stanton's performance the rest of the way. He is the first-half MVP because he has Miami within a shot of first and because the Marlins had a taste of first in early June. If Miami makes the playoffs, it is because Stanton guided it there.

At the All-Star break, Giancarlo Stanton is leading the National League with 21 home runs and 63 RBI. Should he continue to lead both categories and maybe improve his slugging percentage, there will be no doubt that Stanton will win the MVP at the end of the year.
