The second half starts this Friday and there are several big-time series on tap. With plenty of close division races, divisional opponents are drawing the biggest prices. Derek Jeter’s final season has also proven to be a big draw with some of the most expensive games being the final games of his career.
Below is a list of the five most expensive games, by secondary market average price, as compiled by TiqIQ
1) 9/25 Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees | Avg. Price: $517.53 | Get-in Price: $157
This is the last home game on the New York Yankees’ schedule this season, and the final game Jeter plays at Yankee Stadium is the most expensive of the season, by far. The game is averaging $517.53 per ticket, one of just two games with an average above $300. The get-in price of $157 is more than the average price of most games this season.
2) 9/28 New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox | Avg. Price: $478.54 | Get-in Prices: $115
Jeter’s final regular season game is the second-most expensive on the list. These two games are easily the most expensive of the season, and the get-in price of $115, is the last game with a get-in price over $100. The average price of $478.54 is almost double what the third game on the list costs. It shows how impactful Jeter has been, even for games on the Red Sox’ schedule.
3) 9/14 Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers | Avg. Price: $274.26 | Get-in Price: $12
The Detroit Tigers have the third-highest ticket average in the second half. Only the Red Sox and Yankees have a higher average. This is the most expensive game left on the Tigers’ schedule this season. The average price is $274.26, but the get-in price is down to $12. The Cleveland Indians made the playoffs last year, and might be the Tigers’ biggest competition in the division this year.
4) 8/31 Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates | Avg. Price: $251.71 | Get-in Price: $6
Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds were the two wild card teams in the National League. This season they’re in a battle for that final Wild Card spot in a tight NL Central. The top four teams in the division are within 3.5 games of each other. The top game on the Pirates’ schedule at PNC Park is averaging $251.71 and has a get-in price of $6.
5) 9/13 Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers | Avg. Price: $205.24 | Get-in Price: $34
We stay in the NL Central for the final game on the list. The Milwaukee Brewers’ schedule has helped them become the top team in the division pretty much all season, while the Reds are currently in the fourth spot. Still, that puts them just 3.5 games back of the recently-struggling Brewers. The average price of the game is $205.24 and the get-in price is $34.
