Felix Hernandez has been the definition of a workhorse for the Seattle Mariners since his first full season in 2006. Having won the American League Cy Young Award in 2010, King Felix is well on his way to another one in 2014. Here are five reasons why he will win the award this season.

This guy is in the discussion every year, however 2014 looks like it will be an enigma. Verlander is not having a great season, and would have to go on a miraculous run to get into the discussion.

Tanaka leads the AL in wins, and was arguably Hernandez’s biggest competitor for the award. Now that he will be out a few months, Tanaka is no longer in the running.

Aside from King Felix, Yu Darvish, David Price, Verlander and arguably Max Scherzer, the AL lacks superstar quality arms. As a result, Hernandez finds himself well ahead of the bunch.

Hernandez has never been a 20-game winner. However, he will have a chance to accomplish that feat in 2014. His stats are ridiculous, and if he continues to add to the win column, it will only enhance the candidacy for the award.

Aside from the fact that it will be a pleasure to watch Hernandez pitch for a competitive team in September, playing on a winning team only helps his resume.
