There are plenty of teams out there looking for the one piece that will put them over the edge. Only a few teams will actually find that piece and be able to bring them to town in time for the playoff push. These five teams have a chance to do that and more in order to enhance their chances of reaching the postseason.
The Giants are rumored to be in on David Price among other top pitchers. Since they're loaded with young pitching, they have enough to send most teams in return for an ace or even a quality bat. Right there with the Dodgers in the division, a big move could be what separates the two powerhouses of the NL West.
The Bronx Bombers already added slugger Chase Headley to the mix and now their focus will likely shift to pitching. They'd like to add a successful veteran like Cliff Lee and if they're able to land someone of his caliber, their chances would go way up in the up-in-the-air AL East division.
In desperate need of pitching help due to injuries, the Cardinals may be able to add coveted lefty David Price. If they're able to pull off that deal or one similar to it, they would automatically vault into the position of favorite in the hotly contested NL Central.
The Blue Jays led the AL East for much of the first half of the season until faltering and giving way to the surging Orioles. They're still in the divisional race and need to add some key pieces in order to stay in it. With plenty of quality arms in the minor leagues, they have the ammunition necessary to land a prized pitcher before the deadline.
The Mariners have the most to gain at the deadline simply because they will vault the most teams if they're able to land David Price. They are said to be among a couple of favorites to land the prized left-hander and if they can add him, they would become serious contenders with he and Felix Hernandez at the top of the rotation.
