After suffering major injury during the final game of the 2011 National League Divisional Series, Howard has battled injuries for years. Although he has been relatively healthy this season, Howard was unable to play more than 80 games in both 2012 and 2013. With health question marks already in the lineup, adding Howard is not a wise choice.

The Phillies have been one of the worst team's in the National League during the first half of the season, yet Howard, one of the club's supposed biggest run producers is approaching a platoon role. Howard has one of the biggest contracts in the game today. Not only is he making million this season, but he is owed at least million over the next three years. Although the Phillies have made it known that they will pay a large portion of the contract, the small market Brewers cannot afford to shell out money for the type of production they would be getting from Howard.

For years, the Brewers had a defensive liability in Prince Fielder. If they were to trade for Ryan Howard, they would again have a below average defensive player. Current first baseman Mark Reynolds has been stellar at first. Adding Howard would be a major drop-off on the defensive side of the ball.

No longer is Ryan Howard the MVP-type bat that he once was. This season Howard is batting just .224 with 15 home runs in his first 97 games. He has also struck out 118 times. Through 85 games, Reynolds has more home runs, less strike outs and nearly the same on-base percentage. Adding Howard would simply be adding a pricier Mark Reynolds.
