Although he entered Oakland this season with the highest of expectations, the entire 2014 season has been a bust for former closer Jim Johnson. He lost his closer's role, trust of the coaching staff and eventually a job while being a member of the A's pitching staff. The Oakland A's now have 10 days to release, trade or send Johnson down to the minor leagues. Here is why he would be a great fit with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jim Johnson entered this season making $10 million. With $3.8 million currently left on his contract, it appears that the only way for the A's to move him is if they are willing to pay for a large portion of his remaining salary. Adding other pitchers such as Jonathan Papelbon would come with a hefty price tag, but Johnson would cost next to nothing.

Through 2012-13, Johnson was the most dominant closer in baseball pitching for the Baltimore Orioles. He recorded 101 saves through this time and had consecutive seasons of at least 50 saves. He has too much game experience to simply be a two-year wonder.

Johnson's struggles in Oakland were astounding. He went from being the best closer in the American League, to a pitcher who could not get outs. He saved only two games in Oakland, with an ERA over seven. His numbers are very similar to those of former Brewer closer John Axford, who struggled in Milwaukee, but then went on to find success in St. Louis after a late season trade. Perhaps a new club could have the same effect on Johnson.

In coming to Milwaukee, Johnson could be Brewers' reclamation project. The Brewers have already been able to resurrect the career of closer Francisco Rodriguez, and Johnson could be another bullpen success story.

The Brewers have had some very strong pieces in their bullpen this season. Not only was closer Francisco Rodriguez an All-Star, but lefties Will Smith and Zach Duke have been nearly untouchable all season. With the recent addition of Jeremy Jeffress as a hard throwing right-hander, Johnson could help make the bullpen even better than 2011 and help the Brewers secure their second National League Central title in the last four years.
