The Atlanta Braves have played a little better over the last few game but have had very little to show for it thanks to the awesome play of the Washington Nationals. It appeared the Nationals were going to retain a game and a half lead over the Braves with a comfy win over the Miami Marlins. That did not happen however as the Marlins stunned the Nats and gave the Braves an absolute gift.
Sometimes an entire season can turn on one game or a series of games. The shocking turn of events in Miami where the Nats great closer gave up a three run lead in the bottom of the ninth certainly would qualify. Instead of being a game and a half out going into a tough series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Braves now find themselves much closer to within a half game of first place.
No one would expect the Braves to win three in a row against the Dodgers at this point. The huge swing of momentum on Monday gives the Braves a little room to play with that they did not have before. Now they can focus on the Dodgers with a little more added motivation of staying closer to the Nationals.
Whether it will turn into anything specifically critical at the end of the season is anyone’s guess. Remember this night however. The race between the Braves and Nationals could easily come down a difference of only one game. If it does, this night where the Braves climbed closer instead of staying behind further will come into clear focus. With the Marlins playing well, the Braves can only hope they can gain another bit of ground over the next few days.
