Jon Lester has been scratched from his scheduled Wednesday start for the Red Sox. In other words, he's been traded. For what? To which team? With Cole Hamels and David Price still out there, here are the top-five prospects still available from "buying" teams.
The Bucs are the latest team to jump into the Lester rumor mill. Jameson Taillon is out for the year -- recouping from Tommy John surgery -- but his mid-90s fastball and sharp bender will be back next season.
Assuming Lester did not go to the Dodgers but did go to an NL team, Los Angeles will be so desperate for a third killer starter that it will sell the farm for David Price, starting with outfielder Joc Pederson, who is slashing .318/.450/1.035 with 22 homers in triple-A.
Corey Seager will be the next piece of the Dodgers' "all-in" strategy. The shortstop has split time between high-A and double-A this season. Seager's combined 2014 minor league slash reads .349/.406/1.029 with 18 jacks.
Seattle is still linked to several deals to improve their pitching. Taijuan Walker is the most MLB-ready starter on the squad. He throws gas that averages 96 mph, but his best pitch is a snapdragon slider.
The Cardinals have repeatedly said Taveras is off limits. The future All-Star has been compared to a -- sans-steroids -- Gary Sheffield. If the Cards want Price, Taveras is the offensive asking price the Rays will demand.
