The Yankees are in the thick of the AL Wild Card race and need everyone to step up if they hope to reach the postseason -- specifically these five players.

The Captain needs to inspire his team in his final season. He's been able to rally his team around a common goal in the past, and the result has been five World Series titles in his career. If he can't bring back that legendary leadership one more time, he won't add a sixth title to his already polished resume.

Drew needs to step up for the team's sake and his own sake. He's essentially auditioning to take over at shortstop after Jeter retires, and his performance at the plate will determine whether he gets to or not. If the Yankees make the playoffs as a result of his solid play, it's a good bet he'll be a Yankee in 2015.

The Yankees gave up promising young third baseman Yangervis Solarte in order to have Headley's bat in the lineup, and he has to produce. He had a walk-off hit in his first game as a Yankee, so he's off to a good start. Now he has to sustain that success and give New York's lineup a boost.

If the Yankees hope to compete down the stretch, the back end of their bullpen needs to be rock solid. Since their starting rotation is still a huge question mark, the bullpen, which is anchored by Robertson, needs to close out games. If he can channel his inner Mariano Rivera, the Yankees are a good bet to make the playoffs.

Kuroda is the only pitcher in the Yankees' starting rotation at the beginning of the season who isn't injured right now. With so much up in the air about the team's starting situation, Kuroda needs to be the glue that holds the unit together. If he's disappointing, there's no way the unit can succeed as a whole.
