Dylan Bundy is an exceptionally gifted pitching prospect for the Baltimore Orioles. Along with Kevin Gausman, the Orioles project to have a fierce one-two punch at the top of their starting rotation for years to come. O's fans who just read those sentences are collectively thinking the same thing, "Tell us something we do not know." Okay, here are five things Orioles fans may or may not know.

Since 2003, Gatorade has been handing out their athlete of the year awards to the top high school sports stars. In it's brief history, Dylan Bundy is the baseball player to win the prize. The male award winners are littered with big names like LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Greg Oden, Matt Barkley and Brandon Knight. In 11 years, the male award consists of six basketball players, four football players and Bundy.

The O's drafted Bundy with the fourth overall pick in the 2011 amateur draft. In August 2011, he inked a huge Major League deal that put him on Baltimore's 40-man roster. He signed late and didn't play that year. Next season, in low-A ball he allowed five hits in 30 innings. He found himself pitching in double-A soon after, and — at only 19-years-old — was called to the majors. He pitched two games allowing one hit and no runs in relief.

Naturally Bundy, and all Orioles fans, were looking at 2013 as his break-out campaign. Those hopes were dashed the day after an early spring training start when he felt severe arm pain while tossing some routine throw-and-catch. Bundy's 2013 season was over as his golden right elbow fell victim to the recent pandemic of Tommy John surgeries.

On June 15, Bundy pitched his first pro game since the injury. Having not pitched in over a year his velocity has dropped from upper-90's to low-90's. That may seem like bad news but it's not. In nine 2014 starts coaches rave about his change-up; a pretty good pre-injury pitch has now become a plus-plus-pitch. Bundy is still sorting out a proper release point on both his fastball and curve. But as the tired cliché says, "time heals all wounds."

Expect Bundy's velocity to return, 96-98 MPH on his four-seamer and 93 MPH on his grounder inducing two-seam fastball. His best pitch, an upper-80's cutter, creates more swing-and-misses than a blindfolded kid at a piñata party. He flashes a high-70's sharp breaking curve. The change he's developed is supposedly top-notch. When Bundy hits the hill in 2015, he will look like a starving Viking ready to chow down 27 steaks.
