There are countless players in sports that we love to hate, but we can count the players that we love, despite our outright hatred of the team.
Whoever ishe person doing the counting, I can assure you that Derek Jeter is on their list of players they love.
Jeter is one of the most beloved players, not just in the big leagues, but in all of professional sports. I mean, who can really hate Jeter? Even the most die-hard New York Yankees haters have respect for Jeter.
Jeter is one of baseball’s all-time greatest players, and on Saturday, he cemented that status as he passed Honus Wagner for sixth place on baseball’s all-time hit list with 3,431. That is quite an accomplishment for a player who looks like he still has a lot of gas left in the tank.
As a Yankee’s hater, I must admit, I was sad when Jeter announced that this season would be his last. We have all just gotten so used to No. 2 being a nightmare to opposing teams, that we just could not fathom not seeing Jeter on the baseball diamond. But until the ride is over, we can appreciate the countless memories he has provided to not just Yankee fans, but to baseball fans in general. If you are one of the few people who do not agree, than I can safely say that you are not a fan of baseball.
Congratulations, Mr. Jeter. We just wish that you would stay around a little longer to break more records.
