Why Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw will win the NL Cy Young Award
Clayton Kershaw has been the most successful starting pitcher in the MLB for the past few years now. Kershaw has emerged from the era of the pitcher and will be here to stay for many years to come.
Kershaw leads the MLB in ERA, and is among the leaders in many other categories. Other than getting injured earlier in the season, Kershaw has not only met expectations under his hefty contract, but on statistic suggests he has even exceeded expectations. Before his start tonight, and in Kershaw’s last 13 starts, he has a 1.16 ERA with an 11-0 record.
Even more alarming, the Los Angeles Dodgers have won every one of the 13 games.
How can a starting pitcher have a stretch of games that long and even more impressive? MLB has one of the best young pitchers the history of the game has ever seen; yet the average person has probably never heard the name before.
Clayton Kershaw takes the mound tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers. He is starting his 20th game of the season in search of his 15th win. Kershaw’s performance was impressive, but there was a shutout lurking, had it not been for the two home runs he gave up. He finished the game, going all nine innings as he receives the loss.
The streak of 13 straight games when Kershaw pitches and the Dodgers win has ended, but what will not end are the terrific performances we get to see night after night from Clayton Kershaw. When he takes the mound, treasure the greatest we are witnessing.
