Every now and then, MLB teams have an idea for a new jersey. Back in the day, that created some pretty awesome jerseys. Unfortunately, it also created some pretty awful ones as well. These 15 jerseys were the worst of the past.

Apparently nobody ever told the Philadelphia Phillies that maroon tops and baby blue bottoms don't match. Even though they were pretty good in that era, the jerseys were pretty atrocious.

The major problem with these jerseys is that the Tampa Bay Rays franchise didn't exist in the 1980s. They made these jerseys for a retro series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field a couple weeks ago, and thank goodness they never wore these for an extended period of time.

13. 1980 Chicago White Sox

These might be the most boring jerseys in the history of sports. The Chicago White Sox are boring with black and white jerseys, but these jerseys from 1980 were their worst ever.

The Texas Rangers have been the worst team in MLB this season, and these mid-1970s jerseys were some of the worst in history. The baby blue is a nice touch, but not with the really simple red "Texas" stitch in the middle.

MLB had a "future jersey" promotion in 1999 where they basically designed jerseys that were supposed to be what teams' jerseys would look like in the future. Thankfully, Pittsburgh Pirates jerseys don't look like this nowadays. More from the failed 1999 MLB jersey era later in the list.

These jerseys were briefly featured in the film Major League and were just as bad as the team was in the movie initially. The font of the letters is just awkward.

Another of the failed 1999 jerseys, the New York Mets might have gone more out of the box than any other team. Their jerseys don't look anything like their actual ones and they resemble Little League jerseys more than MLB jerseys.

As soon as they removed Devil from their name, the Tampa Bay Rays started winning games. Their jerseys also started looking more like a professional team; all the different colors featured in the old Devil Rays logo were a bit much.

The Philadelphia Phillies really didn't like making attractive jerseys in the 1980s. These awful all-red uniforms made them look like walking, talking cherries.

Yet another failed 1999 jersey, all the San Francisco Giants did was take all the fun out of their original jerseys. They more resemble jerseys from the early 1900s than anything else.

For one thing, their jerseys have guns on them. Also, other than the guns, the jerseys are pretty boring and were from when the team was named the Colt .45s. The jerseys are about as good as the team has been in recent years.

The baby blue aspect of these jerseys is actually pretty cool. However, with the nautical font of the letters and numbers, it looks more like a minor league jersey than major league.

There's a reason the Pittsburgh Pirates introduced these jerseys in 1977 and got rid of them in 1979. At least the team realized within a couple years that these were some of the most hideous jerseys ever created.

These Colorado Rockies jerseys are by far the worst out of the 1999 "future jerseys" set. They look more like warm-up jerseys and aren't really all that sharp.

Let's be honest, it looks like someone relieved themselves on the jerseys of the late-1970s San Diego Padres. In just about every way, these jerseys are the worst a professional baseball team has ever worn.
