It has been a very frustrating season so far for the Arizona Diamondbacks. They are currently 55-76 on the season, and in fourth place in NL West. Like many teams who have poor records, injuries have played a large part in the team not performing well on the diamond.

In what must be the most frustrating thing for Arizona this season, Brandon McCarthy has been a totally different pitcher for the New York Yankees since being traded. With the Yankees, McCarthy is 5-2 with a 1.90 ERA, but in Arizona, he was 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA. The Diamondbacks would have loved to see McCarthy pitch like that for them, even though Vidal Nuno, who they acquired for McCarthy, has been good.

A top prospect of the Diamondbacks, Didi Gregorius hasn’t done much in the majors yet. This season he is hitting just .214 in 54 games. With Chris Owings out for most of the season, Gregorius has not made the most of the opportunity given to him.

The Diamondbacks’ biggest acquisition in the offseason has unfortunately helped little to none this season. Mark Trumbo has missed more than two months with a fractured foot, which has hurt his on the field production. This season, he is hitting just .234 with eight homeruns and 37 RBIs.

Paul Goldschmidt will be out for the rest of the season with a broken hand suffered in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It happened later in the season, but the loss of Goldschmidt was a big one for the Diamondbacks. Even though the team wasn’t playing very well with him, he did provide fans with a reason to watch the team, batting .300 with 19 homeruns and 69 RBI’s.

A huge blow for the Diamondbacks occurred right before the season started, as their ace went down. The dreaded Tommy John surgery took out Patrick Corbin for the season, and set the Diamondbacks back right from the start. Without Corbin, the team really had no chance at all to succeed this season.
