The Los Angeles Angels have struck gold with Mike Trout, who has been arguably the best MLB player the past three seasons.
Since 2012 (Trout’s first full season), he is the only player in MLB who ranks in the Top 10 in home runs, RBIs, runs, batting average and stolen bases. There are many statistics that back up his five tools including this one in particular; Trout could be the first non-steroid linked player to lead MLB in RBIs and runs since 1979 (Don Baylor).
Since his emergence has begun before his 24th birthday, his superstardom hasn’t even peaked yet. He will continue to amaze us with his ability to perform all aspects of the game, yet we still overlook his brilliance along with starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Both players are in Los Angeles, but they do not get recognized enough for their performance on the field.
With two rising superstars, non-MLB fans would not be able to recognize them off the field. MLB doesn’t use them enough as the face of their product. To compare to the NBA, LeBron James is one of the most recognizable players in the world. Trout and Kershaw should be marketed as much as James in an effort to promote younger fans to get into the rather-uninspiring game of baseball.
If you ever get the opportunity to watch Trout, you should do so. He has extremely high potential with the opportunity to replace Derek Jeter as the face of MLB. After all is said and done, Trout will become one of the best players in MLB history.
