For the most part, the 2014 season was a disappointing one for the New York Mets. For the sixth consecutive season, New York had a losing season and ended up far from the postseason picture. However, there is always a silver lining, as the Mets did figure some things out about their future over the course of the season. Here are five questions the Mets found answers for in 2014.

The Mets won't be signing Duda to a five-year contract this offseason, but with 30 home runs and 92 RBIs, he showed the power the Mets knew he was capable of providing which will make the team comfortable moving forward with Duda at first base. The Mets could look for a right-handed platoon partner, but after this year, the Mets should stick with Duda at first base for at least another two or three seasons.

Bullpens can be quite fickle, but with so many young power arms, the Mets look good there moving forward. With Jenrry Mejia, Jeurys Familia and Vic Black all having great seasons pitching late in games and Bobby Parnell set to return from Tommy John surgery in 2015, the Mets are building a great bullpen that figures to be a strength of the team next year and beyond.

3. Juan Lagares is the Center Fielder of the Future

The Mets had a good feeling about Lagares heading into the season, but with his Gold Glove caliber defense and improvement offensively, there is no doubt that he'll be the team's center fielder for many years to come. Despite suffering a few injuries, Lagares showed flashes of being an impact player both offensively and defensively and the potential to be one of the best center fielders in baseball.

2. Travis d'Arnaud is the Catcher of the Future

Mets fans were worried during the first half of the season that d'Arnaud would turn into a bust, but after a brief stint in Triple-A he completely turned things around and now there's every chance in the world that d'Arnaud turns into one of the better catchers in the National League. The Mets do have Kevin Plawecki in Triple-A, but he could become expendable if d'Arnaud keeps producing the way he did the second half of the season.

There were high hopes for the Mets' rotation heading into the season, but few expected it to be as good as it was without ace Matt Harvey. But Jacob deGrom was far better than anyone expected, Zack Wheeler took big steps forward and Rafael Montero showed flashes as well. The Mets also have Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz waiting in the wings, giving them an abundance of talent and depth in the starting rotation.
