Even as the St. Louis Cardinals are going through their latest postseason run, there are people already looking ahead to the offseason and what the team has to do. To be fair, the team doesn't have many holes, but here are some areas that the Cards could address.

5. Starting pitching

The Cardinals could address this area because they got caught off-guard when Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia went down with injuries. Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn are going nowhere, but look for the team to either keep John Lackey around or seek a fifth starter.

4. Relief pitching

Now that closer Trevor Rosenthal and others like Carlos Martinez are established, look for the Cardinals to shore up the rest of the relief staff. Players like Jason Motte and Randy Choate could leave, so the Cardinals will need reinforcements.

3. Catching

Yadier Molina is going nowhere, but what if Tony Cruz isn't ready to back him up full time? The Cardinals could invest in a No. 2 catcher that will be able to handle that pitching staff and bridge the gap as Cruz slowly works his way into a larger role.

2. Second base help

Assuming the Cardinals don't stick with the usual suspects like Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma, the Cardinals will want a backup second baseman with a healthier bat. Mark Ellis didn't hit, and the Cardinals would like a better option should Wong falter or go down with an injury once again.

The Cardinals will shore up their bench in the offseason and make sure there is enough talent. The reality? St. Louis may have the perfect mix of parts. It isn't too soon to make any changes to bolster the lineup for 2015, though.
