There’s good on the road in the postseason, and then there’s Madison Bumgarner good on the road in the postseason. The San Francisco Giants‘ trusty lefty is now the new standard when it comes to scoreless road innings in the playoffs.

Bumgarner continued his stellar October run with 7 2/3 scoreless innings in the NLCS opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, and now he stands alone atop the scoreless postseason innings pitched list (26 2/3 by the end of his night):

There’s also this amazing mark:

Long story short — it was just too much Bumgarner in Game 1 for St. Louis to handle. When an ace is on like he’s on, sometimes there’s just no touching him.

So while this loss has to be incredibly frustrating for the Cardinals, it’s really not a huge deal. That is, as long as they get their bats going Sunday in Game 2 against the slightly less on fire Jake Peavy.
