Yadier Molina Injury Crushing Blow For St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals always seem to find a way to battle, scratch and claw their way to victory. They get the job done when no one expects them to.

In a series against the San Francisco Giants, they look to win their games by doing things right and playing the “Cardinal Way.” When things look their worst, the team has been able to come up clutch and deliver. Although they have had this mantra for years, the loss of Yadier Molina may be the one devastating blow the team will not be able to recover from.

Yes, they did miss Molina for a substantial portion of the season, but October baseball is a different animal. There is not a player in all of baseball who is as irreplaceable as Molina. He is not only a better hitter than both of his backups in St. Louis, but he is far and away a better defensive catcher.

Watching him work behind the plate is something special. He blocks the ball, throws the ball and calls the game better than anyone and each season he gets better at the plate. His experience not only with the staff, but in October, will be sorely missed.

Having an oblique injury is never easy and trying to recover from one with the season on the line is a terrible situation.

There have been rumors that Wainwright and others have been hurt and playing through pain, but no one is harder to replace on the field than Molina. Playing against a Giants team that is just as playoff savvy as they are is already difficult; doing it without arguably their best leader will prove to be impossible in St. Louis.
