The Kansas City Royals are in the midst of a dream season. But even dream seasons aren’t without their ups-and-downs.

As it turns out, the Royals hit their low point of 2014 in late July. They were playing bad baseball and lacked focus. As a result, they dropped below the .500 mark and looked like a team that may flounder the rest of the season.

So what changed? What was causing the lack of focus?

According to a new report from KansasCity.com, it sounds like the Royals players finally put down their wireless devices and stopped playing Clash of Clans. That’s right, the popular game nearly derailed KC’s dream season.

Here’s a description from Royals’ hitting coach Rusty Kuntz:

“At that time, in that situation, it’s really disappointing. You just got to a point where you go, ‘What’s the priority here? Is this just three hours out of your time, spent away from what you’re actually being interested in? We’ve got to find a way to get this changed, so that the priority is the game, and all this other stuff is secondary.’”

Two days after Kansas City lost to Boston on July 20th, the players held a meeting and decided to change their priorities around. Obviously, they were successful in doing so.

Still, it’s scary to think that a Major League team could lose focus because of a video game. Clearly there was more going on than just the hours spent on COC, but the fact that it was at the root of the team’s issues is a bit eyebrow-raising. At least the players realized what they were doing and made things right.
