Wife of Royals Pitcher Wade Davis Tipped Waiter With World Series Ticket

Anyone who was worked in the restaurant business knows it is not easy. There are plenty of stress that accompanies dealing with unsatisfied customers, underworked staffs, the dreaded dinner rush hour and the great possibility that the dismal amount of tips does not reflect a night of hard work. Rock & Brews waiter Ryan O’Connor is probably familiar with all of those symptoms.

None of that mattered to O’Connor on Tuesday when Katelyn Davis, wife of Kansas City Royals pitcher Wade Davis, tipped him with a Game 1 World Series ticket.

“I started to walk away when I dropped off their check after they paid, and they said ‘Hold on, I was going to give you a tip, but instead we thought you might want this,” O’Connor said, according to CBS Sports. “And they said, ‘you’re going to sit with us, we’re a pretty cool family.’

“He was pretty blown away, a little bit shocked,” said Rock & Brews employee Justin Olmstead. “He came back into the office and said, ‘do you guys mind if I have the night off?’ And we looked at him, and he showed us the ticket he had in his hand. And we were blown away ourselves that he was able to have that given to him tonight. So we definitely accommodated him and let him have the night off to go celebrate with all the fans at the game tonight.”

Clearly, it would not take much for Davis to give O’Connor the ticket. She got it for free because her husband is on the team. It is more of the gesture that she would even consider giving someone she does not even know an opportunity to go to Game 1, plus sit with the wives in what I would have to imagine were very good seats.

In order for a fan to attend Game 1, especially last minute, they would have had to cough up roughly $1,000. That means either O’Connor did one heck of a job waiting on the wives of the Royals who were dining at Rock and Brew in Kansas City or Katelyn is simply that nice of a woman. Either way, knowing that the wives are that generous is just one more reason why I want Kansas City to pull through and win their first World Series in nearly 30 years.
