While he has been a staple in the Baltimore Orioles' outfield since 2006, Nick Markakis is expected to hit the free agent market this winter as the Orioles are said to be declining his club option for 2015. Although Markakis may no longer be the guy who hit .300, belted 23 homers and drove in 112 runs back in 2007, he is still a very good player. Without further ado, here are five teams that may be interested in employing the career .290 hitter.

The Seattle Mariners had a successful season in 2014, going 87-75 and recording their first winning season since 2009, but they still fell an eyelash short of the playoffs. Heading into the offseason, Seattle is said to be looking to add offensive firepower to bolster its lineup. While the Mariners are rumored to covet a right-handed power bat, the lefty hitting Markakis and his .358 career OBP may be a good fit for them nevertheless.

Many expect the 2014 NL Champion San Francisco Giants to look for an upgrade in left field this offseason. Michael Morse, a less-than-stellar defender who will be a free agent at season's end, played 84 games in left for the Giants this season, and lately San Francisco has been using journeyman Travis Ishikawa out there. Though Markakis has played mostly right field, the former Gold Glove winner may be a nice fit for the Giants in left.

3. Chicago White Sox

While the Chicago White Sox appear to have their long-term right fielder in Avisail Garcia, they could find themselves in the market for a left fielder this winter. Sure, they have power-hitting Dayan Viciedo out there, but he is hardly known for his defense. The White Sox have also been rumored to be looking for a productive left-handed bat to help fill the Adam Dunn-sized hole in their lineup, and Markakis would fit the bill.

Heading into the offseason, many are expecting the New York Mets to do something to improve their outfield. While some believe that the Mets need to sign a power bat, bringing Markakis in would give the team a viable leadoff hitter. The Mets gave Curtis Granderson, a once great leadoff hitter, the chance to bat first in 2014, but he struggled to the tune of a .210 BA through 52 games in that spot. Markakis would be a vast improvement.

Even though the Orioles will reportedly decline Markakis' option, they could still work out another, less expensive deal to bring him back to Baltimore. Markakis appears to be happy in Baltimore, and the organization seems to be very open to keeping him -- as long as the price is right. Markakis has done a lot of great things for the Orioles over the past nine seasons, and don't be shocked to see that relationship continue for a few more years.
