Last offseason, the Miami Marlins signed a number of veterans in free agency to complement their young core. While the team was in contention for much of the season, many of those free agent signings were dealing with injuries, which kept them from contributing. With that in mind, here are five players who won't be back in Miami next season.

The Marlins are loaded with young, talented starting pitching, so there is no reason to keep the 36-year-old Brad Penny around for another season.

The Marlins brought Kevin Gregg back for his second stint with the team in 2014, and things did not turn out so well this time around. The 36-year-old relief pitcher appeared in just 12 games and ended the year on the disabled list. He will not return in 2015.

Reed Johnson had a solid season for the Marlins as a fourth outfielder, appearing in 115 games. Miami will likely find a replacement for Johnson to serve in a similar role.

It is safe to say Rafael Furcal's first and only season in Miami did not go as planned. The veteran shortstop spent more time on the disabled list than on the diamond. He will not return next season.

First baseman Garrett Jones had a solid first season in Miami, batting .246 and adding 15 home runs. While Jones is still under contract through next season, the Marlins could easily decide to replace him with a younger, cheaper veteran.
