So, Alex Rodriguez allegedly spilled the beans to the DEA about his PED use. It’s about time.
However, until he actually comes clean to the rest of us, no one is really going to care. An alleged admission is great. But until it comes from the horse’s mouth for all to hear, little is going to change in terms of his perception.
Hasn’t he learned anything from other cheaters and those who have been caught in big lies? Telling all is the only true way to put everything in the rearview mirror. Once the lies end and the charade stops, people don’t care as much. They may still hate your guts, but it’s on a different level once all the cards are on the table. It’s true in many different facets of life, and especially in the sports world.
The only true chance A-Rod has at redemption is to come back and play baseball the right way. Leave the shots and gummies at home and just play the game. At 39-years of age it’s highly unlikely he’ll be able to compete at a high level anymore, but he could actually gain a few fans back by attempting to do things the correct way.
Rodriguez should embrace this new (and likely last) chapter of his career for what it truly is. He’s a broken down, has-been villain with little gas left in the tank. Play first base, be a DH — whatever it takes. Show up every day, work hard and do everything you can to help your team win.
A-Rod’s legacy is already tarnished beyond repair. But he could certainly shine it up a little bit with a respectable final chapter. That starts with telling the truth about his entire career up to this point.
