Chicago Cubs Rumors: Team Dealing Top Prospect For Jordan Zimmermann?

Nationals

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs are set to ramp things up this offseason. After many years of selling off veterans, spending little in free agency and stockpiling prospects, Theo Epstein and company are finally ready to make the Cubs back into a playoff contender.

To get back in contention the Cubs must add quality starting pitching. According to some reports, Chicago is engaged in talks with the Washington Nationals for SP Jordan Zimmermann. The rumored deal would involve the Cubs sending a top prospect (likely Javier Baez or Addison Russell) to D.C. in exchange for Zimmermann and his expiring contract.

However, not everyone is buying this rumor.

Whether this trade is on the table or not, it does make sense for both teams. The Nationals need to add pieces on offense, specifically at second base, while Chicago is in desperate need of reliable rotation arms.
